QLD Small Business Month — May 2026

Giving Back to Queensland Business

Two Queensland-focused roles. One shared purpose: building the future of QLD business on the strength of its people.

There's something about being a small business that makes you want to support other small businesses. Maybe it's the shared experience of bootstrapping, or knowing first-hand how much difference one piece of advice — at the right time — can make.

This year, Talent Insight Solutions founder Kylie Ellwood has stepped into two Queensland-focused roles, both centred on giving back to the business and HR community.

Mentoring4Growth — The QLD Government Mentoring Program

Mentoring4Growth (M4G) is a Queensland Government-funded program connecting experienced business mentors with founders who are scaling their businesses. The program is delivered by the Department of State Development and is available to any Queensland small business owner.

Kylie volunteers as an M4G mentor, working one-on-one with QLD founders on the people-side of growth — leadership development, hiring decisions, and team culture as the business scales.

"The biggest growing pains I see in M4G aren't financial. They're people-related. The first hire that doesn't work out. The team that grew faster than the leadership did. The founder still trying to do everything themselves at 15 staff. These are conversations I love because they're solvable — but only if you have the right framework." — Kylie Ellwood, Founder, Talent Insight Solutions

MSQ HR Industry Reference Panel

Manufacturing Skills Queensland (MSQ) sets workforce strategy for Queensland's manufacturing and screen industries. The HR Industry Reference Panel brings together senior HR practitioners across Queensland to advise on workforce development, skills shortages, and the human-side challenges these industries face.

Kylie's role on the panel contributes the experience TIS has built across 15+ years of behavioural assessment and workforce development work — particularly around how organisations make hiring, promotion, and team-design decisions.

Why It Matters This Month

May is Queensland Small Business Month, and the 2026 theme is Future Ready — about resilience, innovation, and seizing opportunity. Both M4G and the MSQ Reference Panel exist because Queensland recognises something important: the future of business is built on the strength of its people.

That's the same belief Talent Insight Solutions was founded on. And it's why these two roles, although unpaid, have become some of the most valuable work we do.
